The mix and match
Whether you're out in town or doing daily living as you head for work or college, there's an unspoken 'cloud of pressure' to looking good or rather fashionably correct as you step out of your door every morning. This might seemingly mainly affect women but in our fast pace, do or die modern world men are as brainwashed by these unspoken rules as we are. Thinking about it, we are all guilty of chasing/wanting what i call 'eternal style' (wanting to look the part at all times), where you're always labelled best dressed and people cheer to your unmistakable style. I am by no means claiming that such wishful thinking is wrong or shallow- seeing as i too feel the need to look "the part" on a daily bases especially being a fashion student. Being fashionably on point hangs a very expensive price tag, and what does it for me... may just not do it for you- so who's to have the final verdict? I for one love the idea of being street smart. Finding your imitation pieces at affordable-almost-dodgy places and mixing up the old cheap with the new and expensive pieces. Coming from a hard working family has motivated my thinking and allowed me to broaden my creativity especially when it comes to clothing and dressing up. I do what i call 'making it work', wearing that one expensive item (preferably jeans that will fit perfectly like my Levi's curve ID bold) with my old leopard print (ingwe) R20 vest that I've had for quiet some time from my grandpa, a pair of Mr Price brown brogue ankle boots and a self made fitted worn out blazer with a cocktail ring. The trick is to make it your own and stylish, while keeping it close to the recent trends. Discover and be discovered. Be adventurous with clothing while keeping it affordable. Eternal style isn't so wishful after all, seeing as the streets still boom with hidden treasures!
