Spring has Sprung, my September issue!

This is my September issue of Elle SA.
At college we were randomly given a magazine brand and asked to design a cover for their September spring issue from scratch.
We were to do a one page spread on ourselves as the new upcoming designers of SA and also write a 300word motivation on why we chose to layout our cover the way we did. Our cover girl had to be hand drawn and worked on using photoshop along with the rest of the layout.

As one of the leading fashion magazines I chose to create something different for my redesign of the Elle September issue. I decided to celebrate one of our major issues on our runways and fashion industry, the lack of black models on the ramps and magazines. I introduced a cover featuring Marquita Pring 21year old New York model (Featured on Vogue Italia’s website under the headline “a new star in the curvy universe.” You might have seen her walking Jean Paul Gaultier‘s spring 2011 runway or in V‘s size issue.) who not only is a woman of colour but also a plus size model known for her curves.
Spring has sprung and I am doing it big this season! Going for a full figure image of our model in a simple black and white off shoulder over-size lace top and leopard print lingerie. This cover brings back sexy and body confidence to all our readers helping them celebrate real bodies with real curves and who they are. I also added a fun and colorful background that is eye catching and screams spring! My September issue will definitely be something of a surprise to all our readers this month as i took time off the ordinary and decided to go with the risks and celebrated that which the industry as chosen to block out (or showcase very little of), representing the "Dare to be different" slogan for Elle magazine as I went big and bold for the biggest issues for all magazines.
