There are people with style and then there are people that follow fashion trends to be in style. So many of us throw around the term stylist nonchalantly and in confusion. Everyone is a stylist at this day and fashion fixed age! Usually there’s too many wannabe’s, has-beens, and poorly self-acclaimed stylist titles hanging on people who choose to naively believe in the exorbitance of fashion then to fully comprehend the labour and dedication that in essence defines and makes this industry. Growing up I had always wanted to be a fashion designer, the thought of creating something people would love, wear and cherish was the cherry and icing. When I reached college and sat through sewing classes things were not as glamorous and easy as they were made out to seem, it was industrial machines that chewed up your silk at a blink of an eye, it was cutting, patterns, samples, calculations and unpicking skewed stitches, basically perfection! By the time your garments hit the runway all you wanted to do was release a deep extended sigh of relief and go home!
Anyone can bore you ad-infinitum with descriptions of the ethereal beauty of the
fashion show evening or magazine cover page on the store shelf, but in the end, when stripped away of everything else, it is all about
the hard work invested behind the scenes everyday. Let’s be honest here, it’s easy to be skeptical of people who become famous first and then become designers and eminent stylists, it's not even about the bitter fashion graduate in me. It's their lack of understanding of the industry.
Giovanna Battaglia talks about what her being a stylist actually IS.
