#SelfServiceSeries ___Phola___

I am Phola Gumede, and I do Fashion PR & Marketing for Stolen Muse in Nicol Way. I DJ as well in my spare time and I go by the name of LoveslavePhola. I predominantly play hip hop, old school r&b, neo soul & kwaito. I'm also a pop culture enthusiast & hip hop head.

What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing?  Definitely the craft of the garment.

What thoughts come to mind when putting together an outfit in the morning, if any thought at all? My outfits are always thought through the night before. It's always something that I have done. I know exactly what is in my closet so I always pair my outfits up mentally. Almost, like in the movie Clueless, where Cher's computer puts her outfit together. I have the same thing, mine is just in my head. Lol.

Your most treasured item of wear is? My mother's ivory knit jersey

Describe a classic look.
A good pair of denims (the fit and the wash of the jeans need to look tailor-made), a crisp shirt and a dope pair of monochrome heels/ flats.

I think fashion is one thing to the world, and it’s another to the people who work in it. What do you wish people would understand about working in the fashion industry?
I just wish that people would be more open to the idea of fashion as a whole. It saddens me quite a bit that I still get stares from people on the streets because they think my style is outlandish. Style should be a norm in our country. That's one of many reasons why I dig the 90's / Sophiatown era because, back then having style and dressing to the nines was an every day occurrence.

Complete this sentence. I find joy in… In a damn good hook. (Line in song)

If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large number of people what would it be? Be kind.

How important is clothing and image to you being a young black woman, and do you ever feel pressured to keep the polished look even outside the work environment or live up to a certain beauty standard in general?  Image is very important to me therefore maintaining a certain beauty standard comes naturally to me. I do it as how I breathe air.

What about JHB still gets to you?  I've lived in JoHo almost all my life and I can truly say that the energy in this city is incredible. It's that whole 'Dreamchasers' vibe that I dig about JoHo.

What will still be worn a hundred years from now?   Crisp shirts.

Scent?   I swear by the Oh So Heavenly Vanilla scented spritzer available at Clicks. I've actually been called 'Cupcake Phola' because everyone says I smell like cupcakes. Lol. I also use DKNY Golden Delicious.
