When Elle SA gets it wrong

"Our May issue brings you our edits of new season fashion and beauty trends, and multiple ways of reinventing your wardrobe and style by wearing it your way." says Editor of SA Elle magazine Jackie Burger. She however, forgot to mention that it included a rather big delusion from our local Elle team this month on their page 116 as they get hard earned titles thrown way off balance.

Reading one of their reviews under The Shopping Diaries on Milisuthando Bongela a Joburg based journalist, blogger and... Wait for it... (CO-)"OWNER" of MeMeMe? Hmmm. I couldn't help but wonder how a fashion director and editor could correspond such falsehood over a well known and established SA designer and chiefly let it slip to printing. Are not these glossy high fashion pages assumed to be graced and engineered by eminently fashion forward, legendary and notably knowledged individuals who live with a mute phobia of discrediting any artist or sending to print that which is less than perfect or in anyway mockable on their fashion bibles?

Doreeen Southwood started Mememe in 2001; she holds full boasting rights to Mememe being her growing craft. Milisuthando (MissMilliB) co-owns the Johannesburg store with her; such words which she also made an appealing effort to share on her blog, saying she could only wish of such credits that award winning sculptor and fashion designer Doreen has, and that she by no means mentioned such claims to Elle magazine. Verifiable facts and excellent research is said to be key in overall good content, If magazines won't bother reading spelling mistakes from applicants or people who want to be taken seriously, then they should work to the bone to ensure that all wording recorded on their pages are acknowledged and on the level of claims. Jackie also opens her diary review with these words; "As an editor of an international fashion magazine, my professional persona must always reflect the style and value of the brand from interactions with the team, to engaging with clients to representing ELLE at functions." With that being said, I still cool my heels for a public apology for such a false move that may have many readers misinformed on who's who in this fashion industry. If two seemingly indistinguishable shades of red are never both called red, then 'co-owner' and 'owner' can ever be the same, at least not according to fashion.

A disappointed fashion reader is all I am at this very moment.
