Before my partner came back from the design Indaba in Cape Town he got two artists not armies bags for both of us. The Artists Not Armies bags sprinted off the Elle Deco stand. Artists Not Armies, the Dutch brand behind the bold art bags, is determined to spread the message that the world needs art, not war. The iconic tote bag serves as a stage for upcoming design talent and young artists. Even better is that all proceeds from sales at Design Indaba 2013 go to the South African NGO Ibhabhatane. The organisation empowers individuals through art – by organising art classes, workshops and coaching to children from townships around Cape Town, and stimulating creativity in all its forms.
