Ever wondered where some of our fashion terms are derived from? I have been looking at the trend and culture of sneakers and how fashion and street couture has taken this footwear to a max in its 'cool',style, colour, and over all technology. Every year more than 50 new concepts are released to the public with influencers/tastemakers in the music industry and social media pushing the culture even further. Limited Edition releases have people doing the rather extremes just to own a pair!
Sneakers actually go back a long way, from never having a left or a right shoe difference to being produced in fabrics never imagined. In the late 18th century it is said that, people wore rubber soled shoes called plimsolls(which we still see much of today), and they went international in 1924. Sneakers got the nickname sneakers because they were not loud as people walked in them, a person wearing them could easily "sneak up" on someone. I honestly find that quiet random for a fashion item that's as good as jeans today, and to think many of us didn't even know that.
Well..there you are! Sneak-ers!
