Let's Talk... Who Made Your Clothes?

Many of us love fashion but only a hand-full truly care. Such a question(title) may seem very simple and frivolous to many, for others it could be a spot light beem that enables them to flaunt as they utter a high fashion house brand. 'Who made your clothes' are not words we consider on our day to day purchases at our favourite retailers that have quite a well-travelled shelf,  yet it's an important point to consider before heading out of a store with a new item.

In the days following the catastrophic collapse of the building, and the ever-growing death toll, many articles appeared urging consumers to support ethical fashion as a way to improve working conditions throughout the supply chain (CMT's) and build a environmentally concious fashion industry.
Having worked for a supplier, and seen how the down gets dirty (literally) at CMT's for four months, I have made decisions to be pro-local production and do my best to support small & independent businesses over the large retailers who have 'made in china', 'made in India'  all over their collections. These labels that we read so lightly tell only a fraction of the stories of your clothes.

Though it is true that in recent years, companies have been facing increased scrutiny regarding how and from where they are sourcing materials and products, it is well within our power as consumers of fashion and brands to also look into the facts before handing over the cash. This may seem like a simple task or question, but it is something that opens up a whole world that we carry with us everywhere we go.

It's time to turn the industry Inside Out. Buy what you know.
