Salon 58 // Jackie Burger

Although salons are a new concept in South Africa, they have been something of a European long standing "tradition" as early as the 17th century. A place where artists, writers, visionaries and creative individuals came together to share ideas, create and stimulate each other in conversation.

Since (former) editor and style icon Jackie Burger passed over her chief titles to Emilie Gambade in September 2014, it is fair to say we have all been patiently awaiting to hear of  her fresh chapter after the glossy pages of Elle. Something of a grand new come back from South Africa's elegant fashion soul.

The former Elle magazine editor recently launched a place of self-expression, conversation and creative opportunity this past Saturday at the PJ Olivier Arts Centre in Stellenbosch. A type of ‘live magazine’ that provides edited and curated content to encourage women and men alike to express themselves in new ways. Salon 58 is South Africa's first salon, which comes as no surprise to me that someone like Jackie becomes the very mind to bring us such an international experience. I am looking forward to seeing what more she has in store for us as the soirĂ©es unfold.
