The term 'denim' can be attributed to the town from which it is from - this town is the French town of Nimes. After being made, the denim fabric was sold at a place called the port of Genoa - which is where the word 'jean' comes from. The French phrase "Bleu de Genes" which means 'the blue of Genoa' is where this word originates, and was given because jean was sold in this port and made into all-purpose sailor pants for the Genoese Navy - this was as early as the 1600's. For many decades to come, this fabric will remain a global timeless item, in and outside fashion!
