Communicating with a CITY we love - eThekwini

I have learnt that mayors are more than stewards: as cities all over the world are increasingly stepping up to compete directly with one another, these appointed people sit in the hot seat in efforts to prove their homes worth the while. In this day and age other cities and citizens want to know how well they are doing on a global scale and evaluating them is becoming a phenomenon. With all this being a reality, it goes without saying that cities need a good team of people backing it up to position it on the high ranks of global scales, and what better way to do that then through bringing passionate people together in conversation about improving and sharing their spaces.

Today I was invited to be part of eThekwini's communication forum launch at the ICC Durban, an initiative/ partnership made up of people who share a passion for the city with a goal to make it Africa's most caring and livable city in 2030. We already contain a dynamic mix of  cultures and beautiful beaches, but how then do we communicate this to the world best way we can. Smart public space and a design-minded attitude are things I personally look for in a city. Even a good chef or an array of excellent local shops can sell a city and its culture. After Tozi Mthethwa (eThekwini's head of communications) delivered her views and vision, one could not help but be excited about the possibilities and great work ahead. And to see the office involve young bloggers and thinkers makes it more an interesting event.

I stand anticipating good things to come through these communication forums and the city of Durban (eThekwini), hopefully things that will assist in bringing to life a vision that will be globally recognized.

Being proud of the city you live in should include your helping hand too.

PS: We received beautiful Balmain gifts after the forum! (can you imagine how impressed and excited my fashion head was!!!) - Thank you Durban.
